This image was taken during a two year assignment for National Geographic for a story on elephants of the world. This project was a most extraordinary adventure albeit overwhelmingly depressing. The impending fate of the elephant which within the next hundred years leaves us quite probably without any remaining wild populations of these wonderful and intelligent beasts.
